Why do Celebrants charge so much ??
Adapted from comments by Rev. Alan R. Safford

Why do Celebrants charge so much for a half hour of work?  Is the question often asked.

It takes an average of 12 hours of work per ceremony:
- Initial consultations, preparing and checking NOIM,
  Statutory Declarations and Legal Documents.
- scheduling, emails, phone calls (unlimited)
- chasing brides to get ceremony, vows and reading
choices (sometimes this alone takes months !)
- research for a particular ceremony and cultures.
- ceremony preparation, proof-reads, approvals,
  updates,   modifications, last minute changes,
  re-approvals.
- ceremony practice time
- travel time plus mileage to and from rehearsal
- waiting before rehearsal, co-ordinating rehearsal
  (average two hours)
- Preparing Marriage Certificates
- travel time plus mileage to and from wedding venue
- waiting before ceremony (at least 30 mins, mostly at
least one hour, includes set up of PA etc)
- performing ceremony
- paperwork, and lodging Marriage Certificate with
Registrar of Births, Deaths, Marriages (BDM)
- overhead costs (including advertising)
(Total average time spent on actual day includes  travel to and from venue, waiting, setting up equipment, officiating at the ceremony itself, mingling, packing up and dismantle equipment = 4 hours)

Here is the most important part:

Your Celebrant is a licensed professional without which there would be no marriage.
It is the least expensive cost in the typical wedding, yet the only part that is really required.
You can have a wedding without flowers or centrepieces.

You can't have a marriage without a Celebrant.

All figures quoted here are flat fees.
No GST is applicable as we are under the GST threshold, and an exemption is claimed.
